Sooty, our trusty Toyota 4Runner, gets its name from the Sooty Shearwater bird which is known to migrate up to 40,000 miles a year.

Sooty is more than an adventure vehicle. It will also be our home for the next several months on the road! We bought Sooty in 2012 and started outfitting it right away for the long journey to South America. It’s equipped with everything we need for life on the road. A roof top tent, fridge, kitchen, storage drawers, solar panel, power inverter, dual batteries, etc. We’re working on a blog post about Sooty’s complete build. Stay tuned!

Sooty has taken us through the US states and Canadian provinces of Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and through these Central and South American countries: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana! Sooty’s has been touring the Americas for 125,000+ miles and counting!
